I am using CS on Windows XP/Sony notebook/512 RAM but cannot open CS under my user name although it works with another name.
Error: CreateFile(C:\DOCUME~1\EDROBI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\~e5d141.tmp). Access is denied
When I click OK in the error message box another message comes up.

"An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application." OK

CS has been reinstalled – to no avail

Is that WinXP Pro or Home? Do you have administrator rights? Have you tried trashing prefs as per the FAQs?

Ed,

That temp file is created by the activation manager (Adobe License Manager). Since it is not being created in your local user Temp file, that does suggest a possible rights issue. I don’t recall if PSCS requires that a user account have at least Power User rights or not, but I’d suggest you ensure that this account you’re using be added to the Administrators group. I’ll create a basic user account on my system right quick and see if I duplicate the problem.

Ed,

It appears I’ll not be able to offer any help. I found the "power user" group doesn’t apply under WinXP…it’s either Limited User or Administrator (perhaps more detailed settings elsewhere, but I didn’t dig around for them) in the User Accounts setup area. I tried a Limited User and couldn’t get PS to run due to a reported "file is locked error", but with no file identified. That problem is sometimes corrected by resetting the preferences but on my system that fails since the boot drive has insufficient space to allow a scratch disk to be created there, and thus PS won’t start up at all (a problem I may have to address later). Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

Hi Bob,
I am getting the error message on Windows XP Home. I have decided to just create a new user and eventually just delete the old name. Thanks for your reply.

Ed
