I am trying to reselect a text layer after I have closed the document. Every time I grab the text tool, it creates a new layer instead of opening the layer that I have highlighted. Any fixes?

Cheryle,

In the Layers Palette, the thumbnail preview is a letter T. Double-click on it to select all the text on that layer.

Tried that. It usually wants to create a new layer. I make sure that my layer is highlighted (or blue), but it still "draws" or outlines a new layer.

Hi Cheryl,
I just double checked this in Photoshop to make sure my directions are clear. Try this.

1. Click on the Text button in your "tools palette"
2. Click on the Text layer that you want to reselect
3. Here’s the tricky part… make sure that you place your "text cursor" at the outer most edge of the end letter (doesn’t matter, beginning or end letter), but make sure it is sort of touching that letter.
4. Click and drag across to select the text.

Note, if your too far off the letter, it will make a new Text Layer. So, make sure you are sort of on the end of the letter. This should work.

Also, one more tip… I’m not sure how much you use photoshop, and pardon me if this is an elementary tip… however, you have two "enter keys" on your keyboard. If you hit the enter key closest to the alphabet keys, it will give you a "hard return" in the sense of paragraphing. If you hit the enter key closest to the number keys (far right), it will render your type. Be careful… it took me a long time to get in the habit of which one to hit and I kept rendering my type when I didn’t want to and had to keep reselecting my text. Let me know if this works. I’ll check back in later. K?
