How do I make a dialog box screenshot in Photoshop, cmyk tiff format, so that all the black is on the black plate only? This used to be called "maximum black generation." Where do you set this up in Photoshop 8/CS? I’m using US Prepress Defaults for the color management.

Edit>color settings.

Set the CMYK working space to custome CMYK. You’ll find everything you need there when the dialog box opens.

Or, to avoid having to change your settings and then change them back, use Image > Mode > Convert to Profile. Specify Custom CMYK and use the Maximum GCR setting. These changes are for this conversion only, leaving your normal color settings intact.

It will merge your layers, though, if you have any (see my other post on that).

Thanks Bob! I haven’t looked for this for about 3 years. It is buried deeper than version 5 was. Now it comes back to me.
