when i do some graphics, i sometimes use fonts, but sometimes if i givethe file to someone that does not have the font, it may go crazy on me, so how can i save the file and maybe embed the font, so later on it does not matter who opens the file, (or if i have removed a font) i can still work with the original file and font?

further more, is there a program that u know of that can read all the fonts on my system and maybe show me some words that i may type, so i do not have to scroll through hudreds of fonts? also maybe that programs may allow printing something in that font style, so i can show my client just a self created booklette of fonts ???

thanks a lot guys, i rely on your wisdome,
Jim

Assuming you’re using a win-pc

C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. (where C is your windows drive).

Then when you send your file to a third party simply create a seperate folder on the disc marked "Fonts" and copy into the font files you’ve used into it. Tell the third party that you’ve supplied fonts they may not have as standard in the fionts file and they’ll deal with it.

Likewise if someone is gonna send you artwork ask them to do the same, then you can copy any fonts they’ve used you don’t have a sstandard off their disc into your fonts folder.

For example I have a logo that uses in part the Lucinda Handwriting Italic font so when I send files to the printers I attach a copy of the Lucinda Handwrinting Italic TT. Problem solved.

Also dont forget fonts cost money… you cannot give a client fonts unless they have paid for a license. For example, we have one client that uses a Myriad Pro varient. I could easily give the client a copy, but the typeface costs £150. I bought a license to use it, but soon as I give THEM a copy, they also have to buy a license. You’ll find most free fonts online are only free to long as you dont use them commercially.

There is a program called Printers Apprentice which will allow you to do all of that and more. It’s shareware, but they do request that you buy it after the 15-use trial period expires. I used mine for a very long time thereafter before I paid for it. Totally worth every penny of the $25. The website has a lot of screen shots of the progranm in action. www.loseyourmind.com.

Send them a copy of the file (with a slightly different name) and in that copy, rasterize the fonts. (In Windows, right click on the layer and choose rasterize).

thanks for replying guys and gals, 🙂

the actual problem occured as follow, i had done a project a while ago and had it backed up, now i needed the file to work on it again, but it says that i do not have the font that i have used, and since i have lots of fonts CDs i do not even have a clue which CD i have used, which is another problem.
i have heard that EPS saves the font in the file is it true? i would like to save the project in a way i do not have to worry of finding that font or backing up the font with the file, any ideas how?

thx

I don’t know a way to embed in Photoshop. You could use the notes item to jot down what font on what CD.
