It’s an excellent deal if you actually use those filters. If you do, go for it.

For those wondering, the deal is being offered by Andromeda. Details at www.andromeda.com

I’d agree. I got that email too. If I didn’t already own a couple of those (the AlienSkins) I’d jump on it.

This is something I’ve been asking myself for a long time.

Since most of these plug-ins just do things that are inherent in Photoshop, albeit with a bit of user-friendliness and GUI, are they really essential? Surely they are just making features of Photoshop, which may be difficult to learn and master, available for the lazy.

Photoshop itself keeps adding features (from "Drop Shadow" at the simple end to "Shadow/Highlight" at the more sophisticated, which are actually achievable with traditional means (and easy to execute after a bit of practice) so why pay out $$$ for something which will do it a bit slicker?

I have tried out a lot of these Plug-ins and remain to be convinced.

Cheers – John

It depends on your priorities. If you enjoy figuring out the intricacies of PS and have the time to spend, then your way is fine. Other people are too busy and find it well worthwile to spend a modest amuont of $$ to save several hours of experimenting, web searching, newsgroup posting/reading, etc.

I bought the package. Color Efex Pro 2.0 would be a good package with some very useful filters if it worked. But it does not. I cannot get a response from NIK tech support. The new version is supposed to work with 48 bit images, while the older one only works with 24 bit. The extensive filter sets are about the same.
