Hi.. Just looking at dipping my toe in the water in regards to PS (never used it before, but I think I have PS5 LE for Classic somewhere in the depths of my Mac). Looking for a cheap(ish/er) copy, ebay have PS6 at £29 (or £39 Buy it Now) + £9 shipping from Germany. Would this be a good way to start? Also there is PS5 currently at £20 (is PS5 ok for OS X?). Thanks for feedback.

PS 5 will run in Classic but not OS X. The only versions that run in OS X are 7 and CS 1 and 2.

Strictly Classic (OS 9). PS 7 is the only version that will run in both; kind of a compromise as the OS changed at that time..

I had no idea which versions would run on which MAC OS, but now we all know. A caveat: maybe check out Adobe’s upgrade policy from PS5 LE to current. Go very slowly with most of the "too good to be true" deals regarding software. If one does get a "backup" copy, and a hacked S/N, all may not work well, AND most of what is sold at these prices is basically stolen. Save up and go for an upgrade. You will thank me later.

O.K…Would be great if there was a way to upgrade from PS5 LE to current, so I’ll look into it. However, without proof of purchase (which I assume is a usual necessity for upgrades?), I don’t know how much luck I’ll have. Worth checking out though! Thanks 🙂

If you are trying to go cheap … buy Photoshop Elements. Most amateurs do not need full Photoshop. Rather than buy a version of Photoshop that is 6 years old … try buying a brand new version of Elements. I do not know about what OS you need, since I use PC like 95% of the world … and like 75% of all professional photographers. But, I’m sure you can go to www.adobe.com to check on requirements.
