I am working in Photoshop CS, and have "saved as" an EPS. When I go to reopen the EPS in Photoshop, I get the error message-(Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file). The file size is about 52MB, I have saved using the Ascii85 and high quality Jpg options and get the same results. Also, if I try to open in Illustrator CS, I get an unknown error. What is going on? thanks for your help!

Did you include vector data in your eps?

Yes, I converted text to outlines. everything else is raster.

The error probably comes from there.

try saving the eps without the vector data.

That defeats the purpose. I may as well save as a tiff or Jpg. There is no reason why it should not work. It works fine on other files. thanks!

Reopening an EPS with vector data automatically rasterizes that data. You should keep a copy of the file saved as a PSD if you wish to not only preserve the vector data, but also edit it later on.

Yes, If you open an Eps in Illustrator, it will not only display your raster image, but also display your vector data. It is when you open in Photoshop that it rasterizes the whole thing. I am trying to preserve the vectors for use in printing, so I get nice clean text. For now, I will be using PDF to accomplish the same. I will probably end up re installing Photoshop to fix the problem, which I still havnt figured out why. Thanks for your help.

Rene,

you mean it´s quite normal that PhS cannot read an EPS
which was created by PhS ?

Ian,

I agree that saving the vecotr data in the EPS is great to keep nice clean text, it’s just that you need to keep a PSD file too in case you need to reedit said text.

Resintalling won’t help, the problem has to do with the way the information is saved and read by PS. I think if you do a search of the forum, you’ll find more info than I am abnle to give on the subject.

Gernot,

No, I mean it is possible for some vector data and/or fonts to give a problem when being rasterized.

Hello

It has been the case for a long time, that Photoshop will not open a .ai file exported from Photoshop.

Try exporting a clipping path and reopening in Photoshop.

It goes through the motions, but the image is empty.
It does not even produce a strokable path.

I have no trouble opening a eps made in Photoshop, but it is only in pixels not as a the original vector shape. It uses the vector data to make the pixels.
