Is there a way to create a spot color with a pms tint? I want to use a 50% shade of PMS 1805. Thanks!

50% shade of PMS 1805, could you not just find the right spot colout that matches 50% or is there another factor involved

If you’re working with a spot channel for 1805 just fill the area(s) in question with 50% black (this creates the 50% tint on the 1805 channel).

If you’re looking to create a fill of 50% of the CMYK "match" to 1805 then just locate 1805 in the color picker, click the Picker button to return the dialog to RGB/CMYK/Lab and halve each of the CMYK values. (If you have a spot-to-process swatchbook in front of you this will let you skip a step – just go right to the CMYK fields and enter half of each number from the swatchbook.)

I am working with a greyscale image, with one spot color channel, PMS 1805. When I add the spot color, it is too bright. I want to tone it down a bit, but using the solidity value still isn’t giving me the results I want. I want a lighter shade of PMS 1805 (and no, no other spot color is the right shade).

Eastern,

Place the picture or mass of solid colour and then go to curves. In the dark side of the ramp (it might be in left or right depending if you work with light or ink), move the extreme point (the one that makes 100%) to the position that represent the value that you want (50% it’s 256/2 = 128, visually each division of the graph is 10%).

Do not vary the form of the straight line unless you want a non linear increment.

Hope it helps

Eastern,

using the solidity value still isn’t giving me the results I want. <<

And will have absolutely no effect on printing.

The Solidity is only to give an on-screen representation of using non-opaque spot colour inks.
