I just received some Avery CD labels to cover some CDs. They have word templates, but that is all I see. Nothing I could find in CS Win help.

Are there any ways to use PS/CS to make the 5391 labels? I would much rather use PS, if I have a choice.

Thanks,

Dennis

5391 labels! Are you kidding!!

If they’re all the same CD get them printed commercially. If they’re all different (god I hope not…) get a cheap IP3000 or IP4000 printer and print direct to CD – the paper labels are a menace.

Get some CD labelling software (Nero, Surething etc etc) – you can import any graphics from Photoshop.

If you are in North America this advice is not relevant – only Epson printers have CD printing there.

Catlin,

Whoa! :<) I misled you. The 5391 is Avery’s template number. I just need about 20 labels.

I have thought about buying Epson’s printer to print directly on inkjet CDs, but am not there just yet. Will have to decide on CS2 or the Epson.

I’ve got Nero, will look in it for the CD labeling. I just use it to copy CDs and DVDs right now.

Thanks, :<)

Dennis

Get Sure Thing. It is outright the best cd labeler around, imho.

Hi Dennis,

do you have Illustrator at all? It is a far better option. I do the same thing in CorelDraw. Make yourself a template. You can print test images in low quality and hold them up to the light behind your real labels to see if they line up. Adjust the template until it is perfect, then print your real labels.

If you do have Illustrator, let me know and I will see if I can get the specs on Avery 5391 labels and make a template for you. If it is standard in Word, I can print an outline from that and then make a matching template saved to .ai format.

All the best,
Brian.

Hi again Dennis,

I looked for that avery label in Office 2003 Pro, and I don’t have that particular one. Have you tried it in Word to see if it aligns with your printer properly? If it does and you need me to make an Illustrator template for you, I may need you to send the Word template to me. If you are comfortable creating the template in Illustrator, go for it, if not, I am happy to do it for you. Please let me know either way.

Best regards,
Brian.

I think you got your numbers mixed up. Avery 5931 is a CD label not 5391.

Brian,

Turns out the Avery template number is 5931, vice 5391. Sometimes my lesdixia gets out of hand…

Do send me a template, if you can.

thanks,

Dennis

I am pretty sure someone donated CD templates for Photoshop at the Adobe Exchange website.
If you haven’t checked that out it’s a great resource for styles, actions, templates, extra custom shapes, brushes etc. Most is freely shared by the creators (so nice of them )
I make my CD labels in EZ-CD by Roxio, it’s not a great layout program but OK for simple stuff. The Nero label creator is a bit better.

I found the 5931 template at the Adobe Studio Exchange website. Thanks for the lead and thanks to all for the help.

This is one fine newsgroup!
