Hi, I have downloaded PhotoShop CS 2 today and found it very slow! What is your reaction?
My system is based on Intel P4 3 GhZ, 1 GB RAM and 160 GB harddrive. Two partitions, Scrapdisk is D: drive with 60 Gb space.

I have it installed parallell to PhotoShop CS version 8.01 which is much faster.
Whats wrong?

That is what you get when you steal something. People with paid for copies are reporting that it is faster than CS 1 in many respects.

The problem in this is the Bridge stuff.. It’s painfully slow and i think it’s ridiculous that its shoehorned into the app and the Browser has gone already.. Oh, and you cannot link layers anymore without clicking on an iccon at the bootom of the layers pallette. What a total pain in the arse… Apart from that, it’s no great shakes as upgrades go. Better hopes for CS 3 eh?

"Browser has gone already"…. what does that mean in plain English??

and is it an illegal copy? if it is would it make any difference in how it performs?

Yes, sorry I have stolen it from adobe home page and running my first trail day out of 30. I will wait for some real answers and see if some more have problems with this version, if nothing good comes out of this, then I will uninstall version 9.0 and keep on with version 8.01

Have some of you tried it? CS 2 version 9.0?

My customers pay for my software and I buy what I need.

Have you tried, just for experiments sake, uninstalling CS (1) and trying CS2 on its own ?

No experience of CS2 yet.. sorry. I will be downloading it soon, though. Are there no on screen warnings when you install CS2 that you should uninstall any previous versions of Photoshop ? If not, I would guess Adobe are quite happy that both will perform satisfactorily on the same PC (hard disk).
Let us know how you get on.

There are no advices to Uninstall previous version before installing CS2. Before I decided to go for CS version 8 I had version 6 and they both worked greate on my system, so I don’t think there should be a problem to have two or even more versions insatalled all at the same time.

I have tried on my son’s computer with Intel P4, 3.6 GhZ and 768 MB of RAM and better 3D graphics card then I have in my comp. It’s the same problem.
I have now unistalled CS2 and reinstalled CS (1) version 8.01 Now all is back
to where I was yesterday. I’m happy for the moment…but I would like to try CS2 under normal work.

The biggest problem is that every action from me shows the timeglass icon! I have had the taskmanager window open at the same time as fiddling with CS2 and it shows up to 48% processor activity by only clicking the tools symbols in the toolbox. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card, but nothing was better from that point.

TRIAL WARE is not the same as illegally downloaded copies. I will wait awhile for bugs and update fixes before going to CS2. I can’t imagine why Adobe would make SLOWER software in a newer version. Are the files backwards compatible? I hate having new software before everyone else gets it. If they can’t see the files we make in CS2, I will definitely wait.

My bad I didn’t realize that the trial was out already. It usually or at least in the past has taken a month or more to get it out. Also, in the future you might get less "you stole it you got what you paid for" messages if you were to indicate that you are using the trial. Saying you downloaded it makes it very easy for people think of all kinds of bad possibilities.

There isn’t an 8.01. Adobe released a few minor plug-in updates like for timing and I think one for hyperthreading or multiprocessor or something like that but that was all. Shame as 8.0 had a few little problems that should have been fixed. I guess we have to pay for our patches now. Those problems are gone in 9.0.

Just confirming Pepe’s findings. I downloaded and installed PS CS2 on my system (I don’t have PS CS on my system, so no clash there, not that there should be anyway) and it is running "very noticably" slower than what I have seen PS CS run.
I rebooted my computer and opened it again, no change. I opened another image editing programme (while PS was still open) to see if my computer was on a go-slow. Nope, the other one ran fine. It is definitely not running as it should be.
Let’s hope this is just a glitch with the trial version.

Brian.

Ok, well it appears that Pepe and myself have some sort of problem with our installations then. I might try it on my work computer, I only tried it on my very old Pentium III which I use for the internet and testing software before I buy it (I don’t like installing and uninstalling software on my work computer).

Thanks for letting us know all is well.

Why? You can also download the paid version at Adobe’s site. You can get the full version or the upgrade — both downloadable. Nobody made the "stolen" assumption but you.

Logically, it should anyway. The same programme basically with some new features. It should run at least as well as it used to do. Pepe and I may have had a hiccup in the installation process and were not aware of it. Actually, damn, I had my firewall and antivirus software running when I installed, I bet that was it! That would also explain why it affected the settings in my firewall in relation to my Network. I was so excited to try it, I forgot to turn everything else off LOL.

Hey, I’m up and running!
I think it was some software that was not compatible with a new install of CS.
I have it running now on a new hard drive and is going to install my other software
on that disk and check after each install if there are any problems with CS2.

It could have been Norton antivirus that was causing the problem, I will know very soon!

Thanks for your help and I will be back to let you know if it’s wort upgrading to CS2.

Hi Dave,
Mine is working good now since I made a new install on a formatted HD. I have installed almost all the software I had on my old drive and still OK. I had Norton Antivirus running in the background before while installing CS2, but I don’t know for sure if that was the problem. I still have some software to install, I think or mabye not, programs I hardly use.

Anyway its 329,1 MB to download and to have a 30 days trail. With a fast 24 Mbit DSL it took me about 1,5 hours to download from www.adobe.com

Try it you’ll might like it.

Geez, are you serious? That is a bit of a worry. I never usually turn my antivirus/firewall off at any time, I was just ‘wondering’ really if it had some effect in this case. I know a lot of programmes actually tell you to turn off those kind of programmes when installing. I usually ignore them.

Pepe

I intended downloading the trail as well, Pepe,
but now I wonder:-) Maybe I should wait
untill bugs are fixed.
What size is it?

Dave

Hi Dave,
Mine is working good now since I made a new install on a formatted HD.

Pepe

thanx a lot Pepe, I’ll download it right now.
And thanks for explaining what went wrong.
I’ll disable NAV while installing.
Good luck therewith:-)

don’t Hackenbush, don’t ever ask me again for anything again on the binary site. Rather, stay away there from now on.

And you are correct not to do so, whatever the software app. It’s not been unknown for software releases to be infected by, for example, disgruntled employees.

Geez, are you serious? That is a bit of a worry. I never usually turn my antivirus/firewall off at any time, I was just ‘wondering’ really if it had some effect in this case. I know a lot of programmes actually tell you to turn off those kind of programmes when installing. I usually ignore them.

Regards,
Brian.

yes, I am serious. That’s happened at least twice to Lotus and once to Microsoft for starters.

Definitely ignore them. The only AV software I know of that can cause problems is Norton. Don’t use it and there shouldn’t be a problem.

I have the full version of CS2. Loading time in beginning seems a tad slower (50mb with no image open in task_manager) if I open even smaller images it jumps to about 70 to 80mb. Browser sux tho

Nothings wrong. The bridge is slow, but you have to look at it as another addon similar to Imageready. A complete other program. Lots more bells and whistles than the previous file browsers. Might be why it comes as it’s own stand alone program just like Imageready.

I found once it’s loaded once, though it’s as fast as anything else. Just not real happy with the design of it. I have over 1000 folders of images, I really don’t want to create 1000 favorites to access the folders. I haven’t found a way to easily browse the folders and have the images appear in the window. The folders should be a tree down the left, not a crapload of favorites.

Then again it’s designed to work with ALL of adobe’s software.

Me I like the webpage creater. That thing flies now. 100 images in 1/3rd the time of ps8.

This is a very good version.
