Meaning, trying to double click the file to open it from MyComputer or Windows Explorer?
What type file?
What program is that type file associated with?
If not associated with anything, you need to do that.

Photoshop CS – Windows XP "not valid Photoshop file" Everything has been working fine until suddenly everything I create in Photoshop CS and save can’t be opened again. If I go to explorer it has PSD file extension but I get a message that says it can’t be opened because it is not a valid PS file. I’m loosing everything I have worked on lately.
Does anyone know what is happening?
Jeannie,
I don’t know why it is happening, but can you try to open the file in ImageReady? If yes, try to save it to a .tiff image and see if PSCS will then open it? I chose .tiff because it’s a lossless file format and there shouldn’t be any degredation of image quality in that save process.
hth,

did you mean to save it as another type and it just got the psd extention by mistake? if so, use File> Open As and select the proper type. rename it if/when you get it in.
(this problem seems to be becoming a recurring theme… several posts re messed up extentions in the last couple of weeks.)
