I know better but the heart is winning out on this one. So, here I am asking opinions on THE BEST $600-$700 19-20" LCD monitor. Dell has a 19 and a 20" Ultrasharp and a 20" Ultrasharp wide screen that CNet says "Only serious graphics pros and gamers will be disappointed.". I’m a semi-serious ARMATURE and am not and will not be a "gamer". The ViewSonic VP201b gets a very good rating from CNet. I’ve heard good things about the Samsung Multisync 213T. Besides "don’t do it!", can anyone offer any advice on a 19-20" LCD?

Thanks,
Monica

ARMATURE

Armature:
"In a motor or generator, the wire-wound coil that carries the current and rotates in a magnetic field. (In alternating-current machines, the armature is sometimes stationary.) The pole piece of a permanent magnet or electromagnet and the moving, iron part of a solenoid, especially if the latter acts as a switch, may also be referred to as armatures." (From somewhere on the internet)

How does being an armature affect your monitor choice?

(All in jest Monica – I think you meant amateur.
Can’t help you though, I will only use CRTs)

I bought two ViewSonic VG900b LCD’s and have been extremely happy with them. They were $439.00 each and are 19".

I have had no calibration programs but then I have a rather unique way of calibrating for desktop printing. I print my image and then adjust the monitor to match the print as much as possible. Most time I can get it dead on and so now the monitor shows me what the print will look like. Quick easy and doesn’t cost a fortune. I do use Adobe 1998 color space and not sRGB however in Photoshop.

You may be an "armature" <g> but do you need to print?

I take it that price is in US$? Your budget seems a bit high in that case – I’m getting a 19" Viewsonic VP191B for AUS$715!
