Photo to look like stone

I want to take a photo of a person and combine it with an other photo of a stone mountain. How can I make it look like this person was carved into the stone??? I’d like to use the highlights and shadows from the person on the stone and the stone texture onto the person.

OK, here is what I came up with.

Place your picture (probably masked) over your stone background, then go to "stylize"-emboss.

I used 25 on the height, and 225 on the amount%

Then change the blending mode on the layer to hard light, and then play with the opacity.

Pretty simple technique, but it does give the effect of having a face carved in stone.

Thanks, the effect is nice looking. I’ll keep working with it. If anyone else has ideas, please post them too.

Joe,

In addition to Mike’s suggestion, you might try duplicating the background layer (the mountain) and then sandwiching the face layer between the two mountain layers. Adjust the opacity and lighting on the foremost or top layer.

Does this give you the effect you are looking for?
