size of document question

I am designing 12" by 12" Papers at 300 dpi and the size of the psd files are around 35 mg. As a png file it reduces to 12 meg – (going through Paint Shop Pro) but I need to reduce
it to about 3 mg – Is this possible without changing either resolution or inch dimension?

Hi Caitlin
I am designing kits of various materials which will be available for people to buy and download from the web in a zip file.
Sooooo each item cannot be too big – max 3 mg – the first kit I tried to upload was like over 100mg – not good!!

They have to be png files cos the buyers use it in their art work so jpgs not acceptable.

I bought someone else’s lit and their 12×12 papers were only 3 mg so it is possible…

PNG compression will vary depending on what is in the image. Large areas of flat, solid color compress well; fine details do not compress well.

It is possible that you can create two different images of exactly the same size and exactly the same resolution, and one will compress to less than 3 megs with PNG while the other will not.
