help! can’t create new documents

I’m teaching a photoshop course to some 5th-6th grade boys and one of the kids managed to toggle something that now will not allow him to open/create new documents.

When we go to file>new and try to make a new document, we click OK, but then nothing appears. I’ve restarted the program and tried to find some option that could have been changed, but no luck.

Any tips?
