I am posting this for a friend, who called me for help assuming I had the answer…..Well, I was stumped.

While using the Rectangular Marquee tool, trying to draw a box around a picture to crop it, it behaves as if he is holding down the "shift" key allowing him to make perfect squares. I asked him if maybe his shift key was stuck and he said it wasn’t. What could possibly be wrong here? He said this just started recently. I asked him to try the "crop" tool and it does just the opposite, only allowing him to draw rectangles with no ability to pull the sides. Very strange behavior for PS7. He is using Mac OS9 (if that matters).

Thanks for any help.
Ken

Most probably the "constant aspect ratio" property of the marquee tool has been selected and set to 1:1. Tell him to check the property bar. Peter

If you can not locate the source of the problem, delete Photoshop’s preferences (system folder-> Preferences-> Photoshop7 titled file). If that doesn’t work, contact Adobe. HTH.
