How do I do the settings to allow me to use 5 X 7 paper ( Photoshop 6 and HP printer)? There are no 5 X 7 options in the drop down menu under page set-up. Thank you.

I don’t have a HP but you can crop to a 5 x 7 (minus margins) with CROP TOOL settings.

Does HP have a user defined paper size in the driver? if so, set that to 5 x 7 inches. Otherwise your probably limited to: Print on 8.5 x 11 inch paper and trim it to size after printing.

Bill,

Thanks. Actually, thats what I am trying to avoid. There is no defined 5×7 setting.I currently use the 8.5 x 11 but since I do a lot of 5×7 prints and that size is now readily available, I was hoping to be able to buy the less expensive 5 x7. And you cant fit 2 5×7’s on an 8 X 11. ( just a bit too small)

I am not at a computer where I could try this at this moment…but maybe…if you save as PS PDF….and then open in Acrobat or Reader….and print from there. Will that give you the options you need?

The paper sizes offered are not determined by PS, but by the printer driver. It doesn’t think this paper size is an option. You might like to check for an updated driver.

Isn’t that menu a part of the HP driver stuff? If so, printing control has left PS. You can, of course, set the image size in PS to 5×7 but print to the next bigger size in the HP driver.

Arthur,

To expand on what Colin already said, you need to look into the functions of your print driver. For instance, my Epson 2200 allows me to set paper sizes in the printer properties and I can save these for use in any program. I’ve used it to setup a sheet size for the Sony Imation CD/DVD labels so I can print them from InDesign.

HP printers have a setting called custom size. When you select custom it gives you boxes to fill in for vertical and horizontal.

Colin and Stuart:

OK thank you for the input. I was just kind of hoping that somehow I would be able to set up 5×7 as a custom size. Apparently from what you guys are saying, this is not an option. Oh well, guess I have to still buy the 8x 11 at this point and cut it down.

Again, that depends on your printer driver, Arthur. If you can set up a custom size in your printer properties (that’s outside of Photoshop), then you should be able to use that when printing from Photoshop and other applications.
