Could you give a little more information. When does the error occur? When you click on the text tool, or when you click the text tool on the page? Will it happen with a new, blank file, or an existing one (in what format)? Have you tried to delete your preferences (as per the FAQ) and then tried to reinstall the program?

It happens on a blank document when i actually click on the document itself to start adding text. when i select the text tool its fine. i have tried all standard fonts to see if that was the issue, but every combination of text settings gives me the same error. very bizarre. i also have corel painter 8 installed, this couldn’t be conflicting with photoshop could it?

have not tried deleting preferences and reinstalling as per the FAQ because i did not see anything that addressed my problem specifically. i have done an uninstall of photoshop and reinstallation though……do preferences NOT get deleted even when i uninstall photoshop?

thanks for the interest….i really need to get this fixed. i have a video due next week in which i need photoshop to create title backdrops….

Shane,

do preferences NOT get deleted even when i uninstall photoshop<<

No, your old preference file remains until you delete it either maually or with CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on startup. An uninstall can only remove files that were created during the install process, and the preference file is not created until Photoshop is opened the first time.

Try deleting the prefs. They are not deleted with reinstall, since people like to maintain their prefs when upgrading, etc. If the delete-pref does not work, I would again delete the prefs, and then immediately do a reinstall.

Corel on the system should not cause the problem.

(In case you are wondering, bits of your text are coming out in italic because the first word in the line is a lower case i. Use upper case and this won’t happen. Forum shortcut for italics.)

well i attempted to delete preferences as well as complete uninstall right after deleting preferences, and even doing the re-activation and i still get the error mentioned above.

really need some help quick. i would expect with a mature program like photoshop, that this shouldn’t happen.

any help will be GREATLY appreciated. especially since adobe charges $40 a time for tech support!! unbelievable that they don’t offer 30-day help after registration…..

thanks,
shane

yes, i deleted preferences (and yes i got the dialog box asking me if i wanted to), and reinstalled software after mere deletion didn’t fix the problem. i tried both types of uninstalls and nothing has worked yet….very weird….

have adobe after effects 6 as well, and its text engine works fine. i have illustrator 10 and its text engine works fine….

I am stumped too. The only thing I can think is that a bad font is messing things up. You might try removing all your fonts, and then installing only the basic windows fonts that come with the OS.

If that cures it, you will then have the un-fun task of figuring out which font is causing the problem.

Bad font, bad OS install or bad CPU are all I can think of.

i’m guessing bad font (i didn’t know that was possible) it defaults to "helvetica" and i don’t have that installed i believe, and yet it defaults to it? anyone know how to trick it? or how to keep it from defaulting to "thinking" that its there when its not?

or how about, does anyone know where i can get helvetica?

and then in the end, this may not be the font in the first place! (but i know after effects defaults to helvetica, and that caused ITS text engine to bomb before for me……) hmmmmmm……
