Say that you extend your document window so that you are viewing the space around the boundaries of your document size. Usually this color is default black, but somehow (I truly don’t know how) I changed this color to purple. Does anyone know what I did, or how to change it back to black?

pick a foreground color. expand the window. select the paint bucket. alt-click with the paint bucket in the purple area to change it.

The color of the area you describe is not black, but rather a neutral gray, (R=192, G=192, B=192).

When I ALT click in the purple area with the paint bucket, I am "selecting" the purple color, not changing it. (PC)

Yes you are right, it was grey. Do you know how to change it? Somehow I did.

You want to "SHIFT-click", not "alt-click".
