I have about 150 images that need editing, I want to make a action to make the process go a lot faster for me. This is what I need to happen,

I want to make a action that will make a duplicate of the image opened then resize one to 500 X 500 pixels and then the copy 100 X 100 pixels. then if possible save them and name them 1981_1b and 1981_1s

I have about 30 folders with 5 images in each folder, if possible I would like to be able to do 5 at a time, if that can be done the names would be 1981_1b, 1981_1s,1981_2b,1981_2s ect up to 1981_5b and 1981_5s

can this all be done in a automated process???

download irfanviewer it is a freeware application, this will take care of the renaming aspect of your problem, maybe some other bits too, it has a lot of features!

FILE>Automate> batch
do the action on one image and record it, then run it on your folders you can put all the smaller folders in a larger one and check the box for use subfolders
there are several choices to rename the files in the bottom part of the GUI (number alphabetical etc)

OK first of all I have never used batch before and as happens in this group alot everyone assumes that everybody knows photoshop as well as the person responding. I don’t mean to bitch I just want to make sure you realize I need detail explainations on how to do this.

If you still care to help let me try to explain in more detail what I am trying to do.

I have a folder named " pre 1980" in that folder I have the following subfolders
1964-0001
1965-0001
1965-0002
1966-0001
1977-0001
1977-0002
1977-0003
1978-0001
1978-0002
1979-0001
1980-0001
1980-0002
1980-0003
1980-0004

In each sub folder there are 5 images. I want the batch file to run the action on each subfolder and end up with for example,

1964-0001
1965-0001
1965-0002
1966-0001
1977-0001
1977-0002
1977-0003
1978-0001
1978-0002
1979-0001
1980-0001
1980-0002
1980-0003
1980-0004

and in each subfolder above I would end up with for example, in the 1964-0001
1964_1b
1964_1s
1964_2b
1964_2s
1964_3b
1964_3s
1964_4b
1964_4s
1964_5b
1964_5s

and in the subfolder 1965_0001 I would end up with
1965_1b
1965_1s
1965_2b
1965_2s
etc for each subfolder.

Is this too complex or can the batch file do it, if so please give me as detailed instructions as possible

Thanks in advance
in the destination folder named "test" I will have "KatWoman" wrote in message

Before I say anything, I’d like to mention that it is impolite to top-post (I changed the order for clarity).

I want to make a action that will make a duplicate of the image opened then
resize one to 500 X 500 pixels and then the copy 100 X 100 pixels. then if
possible save them and name them 1981_1b and 1981_1s

[snipped some stuff]

OK first of all I have never used batch before and as happens in this group alot everyone assumes that everybody knows photoshop as well as the person responding. I don’t mean to bitch I just want to make sure you realize I need detail explainations on how to do this.

Usually if you want something done which you can’t, you find a book/tutorial somewhere, or you let someone else do it (and maybe pay them for it). Oterwise you learn this stuff by simply trying. If one thing doesn’t work, you try a different approach. If that still doesn’t work and you get stuck, come here and ask a more specific question. You got the first hints, which should help you one your way. This may sound a bit harsh, but this is really how these groups keep working.

Good luck,

Have to disagree with you about top-posting vs. bottom-posting. I see both in all the newsgroups I belong to. Most people use whatever is natural to their software and I don’t think we need to go Emily Post about it :>). Life is too short.

Actually you shòuld say nothing more, Martijn, ’cause top-posters don’t deserve answers. Top-posters will not be able to understand a tutorial before they learn to read and write. Top-posting is idiotic, specially if it is a thread with a quite a few replies, and some people were educated, while the other top-post.

Sorry if you misinterpreted my remarks as an attack – I was trying to be funny. The truth is that bottom-posting seems natural to those using certain kinds of software or a browser to access newsgroups. Other software (like Outlook Express), offers the top as the place to reply. If you’re using OE, you read the object of the reply first, so an answer at the top is not confusing.

Answers at the bottom (unless they’re replies to specifically quoted lines) are a bit of a drag if you use OE because you have to scroll to find them. Answers at the top, if you use other software, are bit of a drag because you have to scroll to find the original. Either way, I figure we’re all scrolling and it’s just kind of a wash.

Peace.

something to remember Katwoman, is that not only you read what’s written. A topic can become very interesting and is then followed by a few people. And more people contribute. And some do top posting while other do bottom posting,
and often someone else start reading when there is already thirty letters in it. 30 Letters of which some is top posted and some is bottom posted. How on earth can this then be read?

This was a much longer letter, and I shortened itnow by asking you to click on this url and get the answers there.

I would suggest a combination of the earlier replies
Create an action to resize the image and save as a copy into a new folder (one that you prepared earlier) continue the action to save as a copy at the second size in another new folder.
Then I would use Irfanview to batch rename the new files to the names wanted.
Unfortunately you will have to use the PShop helpfile to learn how to make an action, and you will have to work out Irfanviews settings as well (a little complex but logical once you have used it once or twice)

I have top and bottom posted just to be sure!!!

I do use Outlook. I never used NG very much and don’t want a specific program for them. if I had one it would be unlikely I’d crank it up. This way as it’s right there in the email UI I tend to d/l and look at it. NO. 2.
I didn’t know there was some protocol over what is polite etc top vs bottom post, In Outlook it defaults to type in the top like in email where you keep all the op’s at the bottom. I tend to be a "jump in with content" over a "correct form" type person. And some of you are downright persnickety. I will try and bottom post though because I agree about the longer thread being a confusion if some are at top and some at the bottom. No3 On a level of incivility on the Net which I abhor I think this may be a 1, after all we share space here with "He who shall remain nameless" aka "He of the 1000 names" who I guess is a 10 in the scale.

One last thought – I totally agree with Kat being polite to each other. But polite is not what someone dictates, but what works for everyone. If people in this group have software that actually makes it difficult to read top posted messages, I will be glad to start bottom-posting.

Let me point out, though, that the web is a changing place. I just now checked 3 of the newsgroups I belong to (Dreamweaver, Flash, css) and just started checking posts from the most recent on back. At least 75% of the replies were top-posted — and no one in those groups has ever complained. I also frequent 6 other groups, several of which have moderators and have never heard complaints there either – and I’ve been using newsgroups since 1998.

And please, let’s not flame each other – spirited discussion is great, but flaming is really a drag.

That’s because MS decided they were going to try and force everyone to do it their way. Hence the popularity of"proper" newsreaders like Agent.

The most confusing thing is if someone makes several points to which you reply. Top posting (rather than posting your comment under each point) means that the reader has to read what you said, scroll down to what she said, scroll up to what you said, scroll down… you get the picture 😉

I didn’t know there was some protocol over what is polite etc top vs bottom
post,
And some of you are downright persnickety.

I am conversing right now in three different newsgroups, and in three different languages. And English is not my homelanguage so, I had to reach for the dictionary but listening to the tone in your voice when saying ‘persnickety’, I think I were lucky not to find it in the dictionary:-g

I
will try and bottom post though because I agree about the longer thread being a confusion if some are at top and some at the bottom.

thanks therefore but…
nevermind whether you top post or bottom post, lets be friends and not being downright persnickety:-)

no worries
persnickety is not really bad it’s just means ridiculously picky. Always read my posts with a bit of sarcastic tone, as that is usually how I would say them if speaking.
You’re doing a damn fine job of speaking English for not being a native.

And now I see some people feel top posting is the proper way, so now I’m totally confused.

Persnickety basically means being over picky in a snotty way..
Babs

Thanks for the compliment:-) Also thanks for explaining and suddenly I realize that I am sometimes downright persnickety. But there is no way that it will appear on my business card:-)

It is of course the top posters defending top posting. Never mind, do it the way you find it comfortable. Until somebody complain again, and maybe get my support therefore…
