"Open"/Thumbnail view

How do I change the "open" command so that it will automatically show image files in the "Thumbnail" view? I’m thinking that this might be a Windows setting, am I right? How do I do it?

I’m guessing here!!!!
Are you talking about being able to see "Thumbnails" when opening a Windows folder that contains picture files? if you are, you need to go to the view tool on the toolbar – the "Thumbnails" setting is in there. But this will not show "Thumbnails" of PSD files unless you have the download .dll file posted by Katwoman some little while ago, and which works excellently (thank you Katwoman).

I did download the file and am using it.

It was me indeed – Wish I could work out how I could have the open folder default to detail view personally… I generally prefer sorting and looking at files by date. Having searched around on the net I don’t think it can be done though… 🙁

It was me indeed – Wish I could work out how I could have the open folder default to detail view personally… I generally prefer sorting and looking at files by date. Having searched around on the net I don’t think it can be done though… 🙁

It is there!!

Open a folder – Tools – folder options – view tab – and there is an option to remember each folders view settings!!

Just a point which you may well know? If whilst you have a folder open (my docs for instance) you put your cursor on a blank part of the headings bar (where it gives file name – date etc.,) and right click, you get a lot more options of what details of the file can be displayed and at the bottom of the list you can click on ‘more’ which lets you choose more options and move them to the order you prefer, if you know what I mean? This is in Windows XP anyway.

And Caitlin – thanks for the dll tip, very useful indeed.

Thanks Harry – I don’t think folder option takes effect in a ‘open’ dialogue window though. I did just discover a work around though (for Photoshop only) by clicking on the ‘use Adobe Dialogue’, which I hadn’t noticed before – gives me a detail view like I want. Shame I can’t get that in other programs.
