Why do JPG’s change color when loaded into PS Elements?

When loading a JPG and comparing it to its original BMP I noticed the color has changed. These 2 pics in other programs look identical. PS Elements seems to be changing the colors in the JPEG version.

Anyone have experience with this?

When you create a JPG compressed file you have a lot of choices to make that can affect quality of the result. One of those choices is the color depth and you probably have that set too low. Without more specifics on your settings that’s about all I can say.

PS Elements is doing color management. Learn how that works. 🙂

Creating a JPEG does not give you any choice to change the color depth. That’s only in GIF. The reason for the difference is because Photoshop Elements is color managed.

Photoshop does "color management.’ It changes the colors you see on your screen to compensate for your exact brand of monitor and for the color profile embedded in the image. Other programs don’t.

If you see unwanted color shifts, it is because either you have color-calibrated your system incorrectly, or you are placing a color profile in your pictures without meaning to or understanding what color profiles are. You can turn off color management in the Preferences command. You can turn off color profile embedding in the Save As command.

Read the chapter on Color Management in the manual for more information.

I thought there might be something on calibration… this program is relatively new to me… and I just changed to an LCD monitor as well!
