Are the algorithms that Photoshop uses documented? I need to reproduce text rendered with the crisp option in Java.

for the most part, no, not documented, most likely proprietary. but you can wait around to see if one of the engineers will tell you. doubtful though. don’t hold your breath for this source. find others.

That’s not something you’d do from Java, anyway (not in real-time, at any rate). Smoothing/anti-aliasing would be handled by the Java environment or the GUI under it.

If you want a library, try something like FreeType. I think it’s over at Sourceforge, and if it isn’t Google knows.
