I have just about had it up to here with Windows and am looking into purchasing a G5 when funds allow. Anyway, I’m stuck with this PoS for the forseeable future, so I’ve just got to get on with it. Adobe have said they will side-grade me to the Mac version when I’m ready, so that’s OK.

Anyway, every time I attempt to access a help topic (either from within an application or, from the standalone help) I receive one of two enigmatic errors:

Either: – "An unknown error has occurred"

Or: – "Cannot continue because of an error"

I have uninstalled and reinstalled without solution. Running a fully-updated CS2 under XP Pro SP2.

Any ideas? I really don’t think I’d be having these issues if I was running Tiger…

Did you try trashing/resetting Preferences?

Are you using a browser that isn’t IE?

Nope. And here’s something else. I have reinstalled again – which appeared to fix it, until I rebooted. Now I can’t run Illustrator *AT ALL* ("cannot continue because of an error") and, if I open help now, it opens minimised and, although I can maximise it (by right clicking and selecting "maximise") it then fills the entire screen and I don’t want it like that because I need to see the work area behind it but, if I click the "restore down" button, it just minimises itself to the taskbar again!

I have checked settings, I have cleared the browser cache, I have checked my firewall – I’ve done everything! Why won’t it do what I want?! I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times I’ve lost count!

HELP!!!!

This is ridiculous! All I want to do is get some work done!

I really think this is CS2. I’ve just had the PS, Illy and InDesign newsletters from Adobe and there were several problems, including installation and so forth. I always tend to suspect x.0 versions of any software as they are so often more like trial runs than working software.

The only other things I can suggest are that your AV is blocking correct installation; or that your firewall is blocking the AdobeLM "call home" software. It’s also possible that you’ve run the software and the LM has picked up a trojan. There’s a security vulnerability in the software for which they’ve just issued a fix.

That’s all I can think of for the moment.
