Amazing, he was my grandpa. My Grandma Gwyn has told me that he left me a kings ransom in
civil war collectibles. I guess I’m filthy rich now, once I sell it all!!!

Yeah, Mine too!
Pssst! Hey, just between you and me "cival" is the incorrect spelling of the word civil. You all be happy to know that although dear Shelby has passed on, his two brothers Athletes and Club are doing well. His twin sisters Left and Right Footeare also well and it has been announced that Left Foote will soon be married to her long time sweetheart Roger Print and she will be keeping her maiden name which will be joined with Mr. Prints name and will be then known as "Left Foote-print"

now tell me that shit isn’t funny

Yeah. I can’t say that his passing came unexpected though. He appeared to be closing in on his final hours when he did the decade-later "follow-up interviews" for Ken Burns’ Civil War DVD set. You can easily see that the last ten years had taken a toll of both his physical well-being and mental facilities.

He’ll be missed. In tribute, I think I’ll re-read through his three-volume narrative again. I have a hard-backed set and last read through them about six or so years ago.

RIP Mr. Foote

Yes, I guess you could say he already had a "Foote" in the grave, LOL?

I’m just going to listen to his books on tape. I know the 35 tapes are a lot to listen to, but if I
listen while I sleep I will remember more of it.

I am sorry but I cannot find a logical reason why anyone would want to
listen to an old man who has diminished mental capabilities ramble on about the Civil war. I think what may have aged the poor fellow is having hear his own voice drumming over and over inside his own head. After a while he may have started to believe that he was an actual Civil war solider telling his stories in the first person.

REALLY. Who is this "Clint" fellow to call Shelby Foote "ignorant" anyway? He’s obviously never seen an historical documentary featuring Foote’s commentaries, because he is anything *but* ignorant. What an uneducated such-and-such!

I wouldn’t let any of them ruffle your feathers. As you can see, I ignored the entire peanut gallery.

Perhaps such ignorance stems from their realization that they will not be leaving anything of worthy remembrance behind when their day comes — not even a "foote-note". Just a return to dust. Have pity.

Hi,

You may want to check the thread progression. From where I am sitting, "Clint" was calling "DAVIDHERO", not Shelby Foote, an "ignorant asshole" in
response to his "foote-note" pun.

Cheers,

Wavy G knew that before you told him, he was just pretending to not know that you were talking about David Hero as some sort of a joke or something.

I see. What you’re saying is, if there’s ever any kind of "documentary"-style production focusing on the historical contributions of our society, that we shouldn’t worry about it, because, basically, we won’t be on it.

The reason I post on usenet is because google archives it, in the future say 1 or 200 years from now, people will be reading posts by me talking about them reading it 200 years from now. Hey guys in 2205, how’s it going? It’s pretty cool now in 2005, we got High Definition television sets now, I bet you guys are watching holographic images of stuff aren’t you?

Well anyway think about me people of the future.

As I recall, DAVIDHERO said something about Shelby Foote being somebody who’s somewhat important to history or something, and then Clint retorted by making a comment about him being an "ignorant asshole," and then ended it with an exclamation point, so as to show the momentousness of the whole thing. Sounds like a first-rate jack to me, he does.
