I’m sure this sounds nuts. But I’ve proven it. I use PS to edit large numbers of jpg files. TOday, out of the blue, in the middle of an editing session, images started taking much much longer to load. These images oare only 4x6x150 or 200 dpi and on my machine they normally open in a fraction of a second. MOst of the day it was working fine, then all of a sudden it was taking 12 to 15 seconds to open a simple image. Seems like forever when you have 2100 images to edit today.

I defraged the machine, cleaned up some hard drive space, etc etc. no help. I then noticed my internet systray icon activating every time PS opened a file. Once the file was open the acces stopped. I unpluged my DSL modem and photoshop opened file correctly again. I re-attached my DSL modem and PS slowed way down and accessed the internet on every file open.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Kerry

You probably have the printer set to something on the net and it probably isn’t available. Photoshop needs to initialize print records when we open a document, and if the printer is slow then document opening is slow.

Thank you Thank You Thank You. That was it. It was a network printer that went off line!. I never would have guessed that.

Problem Solved.

Thanks
