I’ve always been the kind of guy that takes pictures of people, or places, off the internet, and incorporates them into a graphic design. I never had a problem on Windows ME ((Gateway)), but now I have a Windows XP ((HP)). Everytime I try to save a file off the internet, I only have the option of saving the picture as an .art or .bmp. It won’t let me save as a JPEG. When I try to open the file under either of these extensions through Photoshop, I get a message that has something to do with turning on differential JPEG markers…or something like that.

Can anyone help???

clear your browser cache and restart the browser. Or switch to Mozilla.

When you say browser cache, do you mean the temporary internet files? I clear those out about once a week, the links under Internet Options in the control panel.

I might try switching to Mozilla…or try using Internet explorer to do it. I’ve always used AOL before. Is Mozilla free?

Is Mozilla free?

yes. after clearing out the cache (yes, temp files) restart the system.

Using AOL is probably your problem. It compresses graphics in an odd way that messes up their use for other programs. (It also reduces the quality to a level many people find unacceptable.) Quickly find a non-AOL version of IE, or try another browser.

There is option somewhere in AOL browser to not save as .art, some view/image compression setting.

That being said, use IE (or Netscape/Mozilla) anyway.

Dave Milbut – I’ve had many people tell me to clear the cache, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect. I downloaded Mozilla, but I still have to get on AOL to access the internet…stupid dial-up. Is there an option in Mozilla to connect through a dial-up connection?

Don MacCahill – I tried using Mozilla and Internet Explorer…to no avail. However, I still have to sign onto AOL to get on the internet.

Mac McDougald – I’ve never heard that…I’ll search around the program tonight, see if I can’t find the option.

I appreciate all the help, gentlemen.

Sign on with AOL.

Minimize AOHelL browser.

Open IE for surfing and downloading.
