Hi all,

I am trying to image the installation of Photoshop CS on a station and push this image to several other licensed PCs without having to physically having to go to the station and install it with an admin account.

The problem is such: When this image is pushed to another station, Photoshop asks these users to re-activate the software!!! Being we buy one software package and several licenses, is there not a way to remove or by-pass this activation check?

I also noticed that the application installs Adobe Gamma in the Control Panel to allow users to calibrate their monitor and create ICC profiles. Here is my issue: When launching Gamma, the application tries to open c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe with more rights than needed and prompts the user to login as an administrator to run. Our Agency has setup our PC with regulated security to this area of the drive and hence this problem. It would be nice if the application could be written in such a way to simply use rundll32.exe and not open it! This would be like if it needed to be modified or something!

Any help with both these problems would be appreciated!

there’s a corporate version that comes without activation. I suggest you contact adobe customer service.

Our Agency has setup our PC with regulated security to this area of the drive and hence this problem.

you need permissions set according to the following document from the FAQ:

I will try to look into the corporate version! Thanks.

For the rights issue… I can understand the application needing access to the Windows system files but these rights should be read/write but not open!!! Most apps that use EXEs or DLLs work fine with read/write access. Why must Photoshop request the use of rundll32.exe with open rights? There is no need for modification therefore no need to "open" the file! I think its a programming issue! What do you think?

to read or write you first need to open.

What do you think?

I think it’s an ms issue and a programming issue. There’s nothing adobe can do except what they’ve done, which is tell you what rights you need to assign to get ps to work properly. What needs to be changed are draconian IT policies that can’t see that there are special cases all over the place.

OK, we’ll chalk it up as a vendor issue!

One last thing… I would like to remove a menu option in Image-Ready (File – Preview-In – MSN6)

Is it possible? Is it a dat file to edit? Do I have to use Adobe Admin?

file> preview in> Edit Browser List

not sure if you need admin rights or not. try it.

Another quick question…

When asked to re-activate the installation/push of Photoshop CS on another station, how does Adobe know how many licenses I have to stay legal?

If I have 10 licenses, will Adobe let me re-activate Photoshop on 10 different stations?

I assume so. As long as each system has it’s own serial #.

Photoshop serial number or PC number?
Duringactivation you simply click on Next and activation get done automatically! If it were application serial number, you would have to place to enter it!

photoshop serial #.

it’s automatic. each system has it’s own photoshop serial # right? it’s supposed to!

We bassically bought one box and "x" amount of licenses!

Marc,

You should have received a box without activation, since you purchased multiple licenses. Activation will only work twice and will prevent you from running Photoshop on multiple machines. Please speak to your sales rep to exchange the box.

I will keep you posted!

Hi Kirsten,

We have received the non-activation version of Photoshop CS but when I run the install, I still get prompted to enter a registration key!?!? The CD pack did not have the usual sticker in the back with a key and my purchassing officer did not receive anything either!?!? What do I do next?

call adobe or (better) have the (your corporate?) purchasing officer give you the license codes. look through all documentation you’ve (they’ve) recieved.

…. the purchassing officer spent close to an hour with an Adobe licensing agent and got nowhere! We were sent 5-6 activation codes that were returned back to Adobe from places like Madrid, Japan, USA…? None of these codes was ours! My officer will try again today and see what it will give. In case someone from here can check, I work for the Canadian International Development Agency in (Hull) Gatineau, Quebec, Canada!

Thanks
