Hi,

I’ve read posts about patching my registery and saving PS7 psicon.dll in a folder in order to be able to view THUMBNAILS in windows XP. I tried with a psicon.dll I found online version 6.6.64.53 … In windows, I can now see thumbnails of older PSD files, but any new PSD files saved with PS CS is showing corrupted. So I assume the psicon.dll is not recent enough?
Anyone knows where I can download the most recent psicon.dll version? I really want to be able to view the thumbnails directly in windows. I hate having to load the browser in PS to view re-arange my folders…

Thanks.

Martin

you can’t – legally – without owning ps 6 or 7. the dll causes problems and crashes and data loss in many cases. you’re asking for trouble.

I’m sorry, I did not wish to ask for illegal software. I own PS-CS… But I thought it was really annoying that we cannot view the thumbnails of PSD in windows. After reading all the comments and possible solutions about it, I just thought it was an option for me. Moderators: feel free to delete my post if you see fit. I will understand. Thank you.

no problem martin, but as i said, it was removed BECAUSE of the problems (due to bugs in windows explorer) people were experiencing, of which "file is locked, cannot save" was the worst. for a while there when ps 7 first came out, we were getting several a week.

it doesn’t happen to all people (me included, i have 7 on my system still), but enough that it was removed by adobe.

you’re better off getting a good thumbnail program like acdsee or thumbsplus or using ps’s file browser.

thanks for the suggestion.
It’s unfortunate though that Adobe cuold not find with Microsoft what caused the problem…

IIRC I think Chris said they did (I could be wrong, but it sounds familiar), and MS said they’d do nothing about it.

I’ve been meaning to ask this ever since the thumbnail issue came up.

I jumped from PS 6 to CS and, when I was happy with CS (who wouldn’t be?), I removed PS 6 and of course lost the Explorer thumbnails.

My question: can I just reinstall PS 6, or must I uninstall CS then install PS 6 and finally reinstall CS?

Hope someone has tried the first and can reassure me!

Cheers – John

I think you can just reinstall 6 then reinstall cs. uninstalls should be unnecessary.

You should know that if some of your icons are black or partially black, it’s because of a conflict with the version 6 psicon.dll and CS. Version 7 does not appear to have this problem

Maybe I’ll just use ACDSee, which is already my viewer (as oppposed to browser/manager) of choice anyway.
