Can anybody help me? On Tuesday I took over 800 photos and over 500 today. I want to edit them all in PS but I then want to reduce the file size as they take up so much room on my host site. Is there a way to automatically do this, and if so, how do I go about it?

thanks

No problem. Go to File–>saving for web (or something like this, I’m using the german version). Here you can optimize it for the web. You can make an "action" to automatize the steps above and use it with the "Automatisation" of PS. Just look into the help file, all steps can be found there.

Freeware Irfanview has a batch resizing feature with a lot of options and flexibility. You can do all 1300 in one go, and can set naming rules, dimensions, ppi, etc etc.

Thanks for that but I can’t figure out how to do a batch of photos? Any simple step by step guide would be appreciated

Sorry, I forgot to say that I am using PS7 and Windows XP so I had to fiddle about with the Action box to find out what you were suggesting but I did get it to work on individual images.

Sorry again but I just had an idea. Is there a way of setting up "save to web" as an action that would reduce all images to 50% of the original or does that have to be done on an individual basis?

You’re on the right track. First record an action that does the resize, then use Automate>Batch to apply that action to a bunch of images.

I nearly have it but I still have to save each image individually! If I select "override" it seems that the action is only compatible with Mac or Unix as i cannot tick the Windows option. I’m sure that I’m missing something simple…………..any suggestions please

At the end of the action you have to choose File–>Save As… if you don’t want to select the compression reate of the JPEG individually.

I’m really sorry but I just don’t get this. I just resized 800 images but they didn’t go to the destination folder although I watched the action happening. When they were completed, nothing is on my screen so there is nothing to save. When you said, "At the end of the action you have to choose File–>Save As", what exactly did you mean? When I creat the action or what? If I do one image using this action, I can save it but seemingly not possible with a batch. I know this has to be simply fixed, but how?

Look at the help file? It is in the File menu ‘Batch conversion/rename’.

make sure to choose a newly created folder
if you renamed as part of the action it will name all the files the same at the bottom of the automate palette are options to create names ans succesive file endings.
I use "save for WEB" in my actions it doesn’t give me that problem

Hello again honest joe,

If you have trouble saving them using Photoshop 7
then search for a program called EZ THUMBNAILS.
Though I’m suggesting something different, I use PS7
as well on a the winXP platform and didn’t come across
any problems.

You can download it from http://www.fookes.com.
Its freeware and really good at batching resize. It has
options that allow you to set the constraints on images. Its best if you play with the settings using a single image before attempting to batch. You can set your own
size limitations.

Good Luck
