I don’t just want to duplicate a text layer, that’s easy. I’m setting up a template for a CD insert in which I’ll need to enter the artists name and album name all over the place. I want to be able to type the names once and have them instantly clone to the other text layers. SO, what ever I type in one layer needs to show up in the other layers without having to copy, past, copy, paste, copy, paste, type, type, type!

Is this possible? Easy Cd Creator can do it but all in all that’s an awful primitive porgram that I would like to discontinue using.

photoshop automatically creates a new layer for every text object. you can just make one layer that has your desired text and drag it onto the new layer button at the bottom of your layers pallete wherever you need it.

That’s different that what I’m asking about. Let’s say I type the work "happy" in one layer. I want it to appear in six different layers all at the same time. If I erase the "y" and get "happ" then I want that to show up as "happ" in the other layers. There has got to be a way to link layers so that you only have to type a word once. I guess I’d call it real time cloning text.

That is beyond my skill level in Photoshop. I am going to guess that photoshop isn’t really the ideal program for that kind of work, or any typesetting for that matter. If you were working in Indesign you could update links and do what you are looking for.

I don’t think so. If I understand you correctly, you want one letter on each layer? If so, you’ll need to create a new text layer for each letter. YOu can then put them in a layer set and add any common effects like drop shadow or hilight or whatever you want to do.

think you need the find/replace command. so if you typed happy, and cloned it 6 times, but then you wanted them all to say happ, you would go to find/replace text, and type find: happy and replace it with: happ. if that is what you are talking about.

That is under Edit>Find and Replace Text
