hello and greets to the group

was just wondering if anyone had tried to make the propellers in a picture of a plane spin around like they were moving when they were not moving.

was wondering how you did it to make it look realistic….

thanks to all in advance

Filter\Blur\Radial Blur is not a bad place to start. Try these settings:

Amount 40
Blur Method Spin
Quality Best

It works better if the Amount is more rather than less because you can then use Edit\Fade Radial Blur to pull it back.

Incidentally you can get nice effects by running the filter twice. i.e set amount at 20 and then repeat at 20 this gives a different end product to one application at 40. It’s down to personal taste.

Hope this is of assistance to you.

I agree with two sheds that a radial blur filter would be a good place to start. I would also isolate the propeller onto a layer by itself so I could play with the transparency. I think a spinning propeller would be virtually invisible in a stationary photograph. Try setting the transparency low and playing with the blending modes for the layer.

And just to add to the advice with Radial blur and putting the propeller on its own layer: duplicate the propeller layer for each application of the blur, and bring the original to the top of the propeller stack so that you can keep the blades looking sharper if you need to.
