It’s reasonable on specific software but a bit sketchy on details about RAW – too much of "you should do this" without giving you the underlying principles so you can work out it for yourself (i.e. the old proverb about giving someone a fish and they can eat for a day, give them a rod and line and they can eat *every* day).

IMHO, sometimes you really need to read a book, or parts of one ๐Ÿ˜‰

Although I don’t agree with everything he says about workflow and use of RAW (particularly his choice of colour space, Bruce Fraser’s Real World Camera RAW is hard to beat. For an explanation of digital capture, I’ve yet to see anything clearer than the chapter in Martin Evening’s Photoshop for Photographers.

If you must use the net <g> a good general site which includes quite a lot about "digital darkroom" is http://luminous-landscape.com/ though I don’t remember anything specific about RAW WB.

Russell Brown is always a pretty good choice for info, though again I don’t remember if he specifically deals with WB:
http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

And if you want a rather jaundiced view of digital photography (but fun to read all the same) look at Steven Livick’s site:
http://www.livick.com/method/treadmill/pg1.htm

He also has good info on his site about printing and print longevity which is rather more realistic than Wilhelm. Again, maybe not what you wanted, but worth bookmarking for the future.

This article is quite clear on the basics of WB:

http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_white-balance.html

This one is quite good at balance correction using PS:

http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/white-balance-photo shop.html

Not forgetting Adobe, this article (a pdf) is quite good:

www.adobe.com/digitalimag/pdfs/ps_workflow_sec3.pdf

And this one is quite good too:

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/white-balance.htm

The problems with all of the above is that they are, necessarily, quite short. Yes, we’re back to recommending the books I first mentioned again… ๐Ÿ˜‰

รดkay Hecate, lets start here…
checking in the book shelve next to my desk I find:

Adobe Photoshop Toolkit Album 2 SE (Full Program)
from the makers of Computer Arts

How to Do Everything with
Photoshop CS (now in Full Color)
by Colin Smith

Photoshop CS for Windows and Mac
in Full Colour by
Robert Shufflebotham

Adobe Photoshop – Working Smarter
from the makers of Computer Arts

good, lets move to the magazine shelve:
Digital Photo Effects
Digital Photo Effects
Digital Photo Effects
etc
etc
etc
etc
and many more but said one became my favourite

(sorry Hecate, I could not hear that mumbling clearly;
remember what I said about your accent:-)))

Although I don’t agree with everything he says about workflow and use of RAW (particularly his choice of colour space, Bruce Fraser’s Real World Camera RAW is hard to beat. I am glad you mentioned this because I intend(ed) to order:

The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) by Scott Kelby
Scott Kelby is President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP

I’ve noted Martin Evening market a book under the same title but looking at Kelby’s portfolio, I thought to go for his version although I have not seen Evening’s portfolio (neither in the evening or morning time:-)

Something I am guilty of is buying a book, spend half an hour on it and start searching on Internet again for what I want while ignoring the book.

This time I could here you clearly! … and I agree that it is stupid and a waste of money.

If you must use the net <g> a good general site which includes quite a lot about "digital darkroom" is http://luminous-landscape.com/ though I don’t remember anything specific about RAW WB.
it is not really necessary using the net, but I love doing it.

Hecate – The Real One

Thanks Hecate, I’ll work through the lot of those urls.
and thanks a lot for it.
Lets see what Colin Smith’s got in ‘how to do everything with CS’ about RAW. This is a 393 pages book, and raw รฌs part of everything… in browsing through the contents, I do not see anything. I’ll let you know.

In the mean time, I’ve got urls to click on

That depends on whether you like smart alecs who seem to think that not only every corny joke they make is excellent, but then make it patently clear that they’re slapping themselves on the back at how clever they are doing it. ๐Ÿ™‚ OTOH, if you want a book written by a professional who writes as a professional rather than a bad Bob Hope clone, you’ll go for Martin Evening’s book.

As for his credentials – he was pone of the earliest adopters of a digital workflow in the UK, he’s an alpha and beta tester for Photoshop, was the keynote speaker for PS 7 at the Adobe Roadshow in the UK and at the Royal Photographic Society the same year and was a founding member of the RPS Digital Imaging Group.

Take a look at :

www.martinevening.com
www.prodig.org
www.photoshopforphotographers.com

Personally, I think the thing Kelby is best at is self-publicity. I did give him a chance – I bought 2 different copies of Down & Dirty Tricks and, as far as I could see, the only "Dirty Trick" was charging for the books in the first place ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope that helps ๐Ÿ˜‰
