For your first problem, select the Move tool then on the tool bar tick "Auto select Layer".

The second problem: after selecting new adjustment layer, in the dialogue box tick "Use previous layer to create clipping mask". There are other ways to do what you want but this method works in most instances.

Hi Geoff,

I still have the same problems. When I ctr click a layer (still after ticking Auto select layer) I dont get it activated with marching ants like I always did in previous versions. I still have the same problem with adding adjustment layers from the layer palette. Can not see any "use prev. layer to create clipping mask" there.

Im starting to miss 7.0

1st problem: are you ctrl clicking on the layers palette or on the canvas? it should be on the palette.
2nd problem: I guess you are using the "create new adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of the layers palette. I was referring to using the toolbar "Layer / New adjustment layer" where you will see "Use previous layer to create clipping mask". In your case all you have to do is to Alt click in-between the adjustment layer and the layer that you want it to affect. Hope this makes sense.

The problem here is that I have been using PS for 7 years and I have yet to solve this problem occuring with the CS2. Ctr clicking the layer IN the layers palette have since PS 4.0 resulted in an active selection but not anymore. Also, I shouldnt have to create a clipping mask in the layer palette for an adjustment layer to take effect.

You now have to Ctrl-click in the preview thumbnail in the Layers Palette, not just anywhere as previously.

Not sure what your problem with Adjustment Layers is. They have ALWAYS affected all layers underneath unless you make a mask or Clipping Group or whatever. Maybe i am not understanding.

Hi,

You are absolutely right! Ctrl-clicking directly on the prewiev thumbnail in the layers palette solved my problem. But what was the point in that Adobe? Thank you for telling me this:)

Adjustment layers in previous version affected the one layer underneith when you had youre mouse in the layer you wanted to be affected. I guess I can ctrl-click the layer to be affected, that will solve the problem .. but Im trying to figure out the differences and see the logic in Adobes new features. I dont always see them tough but maybe it takes time to adjust my own "brain layers"

the point is that you can now select multiple layers by holding ctrl.
