I found this cool option yesterday that lets you darken the black parts of a photo with a slider bar… now I can’t find it 🙁

Sounds like Image -> Adjustments -> Selective Color….

Set "Colors" to "Blacks" and slide the lower slider named "black" to fit
your desire… =)

Today I realized that the option I was looking for was in my Microtek scanner software, not Photoshop.

I will try "Selective color" though as that is something I could use a lot.

On my night shots I often like to black out the whole sky; the paint bucket option sometimes overlaps into areas where I don’t want it, and the brush is time consuming.

Here’s a reduced example of one I’ve been working on:
