I’ll be able to work with the file but only for a few hours. Then for some reason I can’t open the file in Photoshop (using 6.0) or access it in Quark (using 6.1). I also lose access to it through windows explorer (using WinXP). In WinExplorer I sometimes get the message :

The instruction at "0x77f585c0" referenced memory at "0x00000000" The memory could not be "written".
Click ok to close the program.

Or Photoshop, Quark and Win Explorer will freeze and shut down automatically without giving an error message. The Tiffs I’m working with came off a CD created by a Mac user. Is it my computer that is the problem or is it the CD that I’m getting. This happened once before with Mac Tiff files that were given to me on CD. I ended up having to format my computer and reinstall windows.

Should I be yelling at microsoft or refusing to accept Mac files?

p.s. Restarting the computer doesn’t do anything.

Try changing your file associations for TIFF and JPEG to the Windows default if you have them associated with Photoshop. Not sure if this is the problem here but there is a known Windows XP bug which causes problems like this and that is the solution. Nothing to do with a Mac origin if this is the case.
