RE: Photoshop 6 / AOL
Not too long ago I switched operating system from ME to XP.

I used to be able to download pictures from the web simply by right-clicking on the image> Save as give it a name and then I could go to the file I’d store in ( generally C drive)

Since the new system was installed, these pictures cannot load. I get dialog messages giving me some explanations but bottom line is I can no longer save these pictures easily.

Any idea as to what must be done here? And for the record, I do not use any photos in any illegal manner or any way that violates any copyrights.

Thanks.

Doesn’t AOL use some sort of proprietary compression to make images load faster? Could that be causing the issue?

You can turn off the proprietary compression "feature" in the AOL preferences.

Also, connect to the web via AOL, minimize it’s browser and load up Internet Explorer and surf the web that way. I know you can save the images via IE.

Please bear in mind that images on the web are copyrighted and you shouldn’t use those downloaded images without prior approval from the image author.

I had a problem with xp and it would only save each image as a BMP. This turned out to be an IE problem, the fix was to delete the temp file queue.

Attn: graffiti, Grass Hopper and ecwoodmore:

Thank you for your responses.

I tried Grass Hopper’s solution and it worked. I searched for images via Internet Explorer. I am still going to try to to see if I can do what graffiti and Grass Hopper suggested and change preferences in aol. Do you know exactly which items I need to change? ( aol 9.0)

ecwoodmore. You are right about the bpm. When I was using me system I always had to convert to bpm or it would not download.

I am not the most computer savvy person on the planet and I appreciate your help.

Art,
I’m no help with AOL preference settings. I know you can change the compression setting for faster downloads (this is the default setting), but where it is, I don’t know. I don’t like the AOL browser and would never (personally) use it. I think you are better served using the IE browser!
