Transforming Rounded Rectangle

I am an experianced photoshop user. I have not used paths too much in the past, so I have been learning to use paths in PS. A great tool, could save some time. One thing we do here at work is create a button for an application (like Submit), then, as we need new ones, we would use the layers to cut and stretch, or whatever. Works fine, but a button on a single path would save a heck of alot of time for everyone

I am stuck in one area, though. Say I have created a rounded rectangle with a radius of 10px. I would like to transform this shape horizontaly only (make it longer or shorter) while maintaining the exact same radius. Currently, it is elongating (or decreasing) the radius.

Any suggestions for transforming this shape and maintaining the radius? I have searched through the PS help files and have found nothing useful, and have tried all of the various options under the rounded rectangle tool.

Yes.

The rounded rectangle is made up of 8 anchor points.

If you use the Direct Selection Tool (tap keyboard "A"…it’s the white arrow) you can SHIFT + click to select the 4 points that make up one of the sides of the rounded rectangle. You may also click and hold, then drag diagonally to select just the four points you want. You’ll know those 4 points are selected because the little box iicons representing the anchor points will be filled in gray. The unselected points on the opposite end of the rectangle will be UNfilled little boxes.

Now, with these four points selected simply use that arrow to drag it out farther or scrunch it in smaller. Hold down the SHIFT key while doing this to maintain your transformation in the horizontal axis. You can also move those points 1 pixel at a time by using the left or right arrrow keys; hold down the SHIFT key to move them 10 pixels at a time.

That should fix you right up.

You can do it using the Direct Selection Tool. Click on the path on one end of the rounded rect and select all four of the control points (either one at a time or by dragging a marquee around them). You can then drag to elongate or shorten the rounded rect. Holding down the Shift key while you do it will constrain it to horizontal or vertical.
