Full versions are US$600.

If you can find a copy of Photoshop 7.0.1 for sale be VERY careful. Look at seller ratings. Only pay via escrow. If all you receive is a shrinkwrapped disk in a jewel case, do not authorize the release of funds, no matter how authentic you think it looks. Contact Adobe’s anti-piracy unit and report the seller with as much information about them as you can.

Thank you for your replies. Yes, that answers my question. I am indeed reporting to Adobe the seller who sold me a copy of PS7 which suddenly expired after 90 days. After numerous emails, he finally replied yesterday, saying that he had accidentally give me the serial number for an academic version and would send me a new serial number.

I do not believe him. Academic versions of software do not expire. I don’t see how another serial number would help, since you can’t just use any serial number with any copy of the program; you have to have the one that goes with that CD.

No, I have not reported him to a credit card company because I didn’t use a credit card to pay him: I bought this through ebay and paid him through Paypal. I have reported him to Adobe, ebay, and Paypal, though.

Further, you can use a bootleg CD-R from a previous version as "proof" for PS 7 and previous update versons to install. The update verson itself can even be a CD-R copy.

This is of course not legal but just how it functions.

BUT… adobe keeps a list of known pirated serial #’s (i guess the get mulitple registrations from all over with the same #) then lock them out of upgrades. users with know pirated #’s were unable to upgrade from 7.0 to 7.01 for example.

But this doesn’t stop folks burning/giving program to friends, coworkers, etc.
No way to know, but probably THE most common form of pirating, I’d think.
