I have a file within photoshop (any photoshop file) and I click "save for web" and select the option of GIF, however when the popup comes up to ask you where to save it only has the option to save it as a jpg and will only save it as a jpg even though in the initial screen I selected gif.

I can still save images as jpgs using the "save for web" functionality, so that part is still functional, I just can’t seem to get GIF’s to work.

Any advice?

I’ve tried deleting my preferences file as I thought that could have been a possibility.

Thanks in advanced.

Now *that’s* a weird one…

Try deleting Save For Web prefs, as I actually don’t know for sure they are deleted with general pref deletion:

Hold down Ctrl+Alt, then choose Save For Web.
You should get a dialog asking if you want to delete Save For Web preferences.
Choose yes.

That change anything?

Nope, didn’t work. Wouldn’t have thought that they had different preferences for it though.

I would just like to note that this did previously work.

I am also having a problem in that if I open up a gif image and try and add text to it, the text not rastered – ie – it doesn’t have the pixels around it to make it smooth – it’s very jagged, if that makes sense. I can copy the give to a new psd file and add text to the file and it still does the same thing. But I can open up a clean file and the text tool work just fine (note it is not just the text tool – it is the shape tool as well – i’m assuming any tool that makes vector based things) I’m not sure if the two are related or not, but thought I would add that in case it brought any new ideas.

re your new prob with vectors and gifs… not supported. switch the mode (image> mode) from indexed to rgb and have another go.

Thanks for the advice on the vectors and gifs…
You wouldn’t happen to have any other suggestions for places I could go for advice on my original problem or other suggestions on what may be the problem?

if resetting the prefrences for save for web (crtl-alt when starting save4web) doesn’t work, and resetting the main prefrences (crtl-alt-shift when starting photoshop) doesn’t work, have you tried reloading the program?
