I’ve got an image to display as backgroundimage on my website. For this I’ve got a psd with 2 layers. (500x500px)
– Layer 1: just filled with the background color which is on my website – Layer 2: an image from which I set the opacity to 10%

In Photoshop this all look great, but when I save it as a GIF, PNG or JPG image (using all colors I can use) it looks like the image is saved with just up to 10 colors so the image does not look very nice.

To figur out wht the problem was I created a screenshot from the image opened in photoshop (the way it look good) and pasted the screenshot in a new image in photoshop. I cut out the exact image and save it to a gif-file. Now the image looks great, tough the background-color is not exact the same anymore.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

Are you using a web palette to select your colours?

10% opacity is very low although it should look ok in jpg format, try uping the opacicy.

Gif should only be used for vector images or images that require transparancy.

PNG suffers from large file sizes and badly supported in IE

How do I figure out if I’m using a webpalate? The image is cut out of an image which is using about 15 colors.

I tried saving the image as JPG, but this the image does not look ok.

Any more suggestions?

Go to the colour palette click the small black arrow on the top right of the palette and select ‘web colour sliders’

Although this should’nt make a lot of difference to a jpg.

Can you post the image up to alt.binaries.pictures.utilities, I get a look at it there and see iF I can find your problem. Put Rolands picture in the subject line.

you need to create an action that resizes them to 300 dpi x dimenisions versus 72dpi X dimensions.

I have a digital camera that allow’s me to shoot images in 6 million pixels, when I download the images into my laptop and open them thru adobe seven and try to pritn them the images are much larger than the print area. Does anyone know how to possibly reduce the size of the image so it will print on a 8 x 10 size sheet of paper and not have any part of the image cut off.
I hope I explained this ok, thanks in advance for the help

Charles, click on the Print Options menu item, it’s under File, and check the box that says "Scale to Fit Media".

If you have an Epson printer, check out the printer properties layout options – they include a "Fit to Page" option to size the image to match the paper.

I think that you can do this within Photoshop too.

-or- one could simply use PS to reset the ‘image size’ (dpi) without resampling to permanently mark the desired print size in the file.

or you could go to image , image size and resize it to fit the media your printing on.
