Hello All,

Is there a way to make animated gif’s within Photoshop or will I need other software? If yes, can anyone recommend a good (relatively inexpensive) program that can help?

Thanks.

If you loaded in PS, Image Ready should’ve come along for the ride. Just open Image Ready instead of Photoshop and do your animations there.

I’m not sure if Photoshop is capable of producing animated GIF files, however…..

Image Ready is the tool to use. It’s automatically bundled with Photoshop. Easy to use. Creates wonderful annimaged gifs. Take a look at the annimated gifs I created with Image Ready 2.0 (bundled with Photoshop 5.5) at my web page, Fossils From Pleistocene Lake Manix, California at http://esmeralda.topcities.com/manix/manixlakebeds.html .. Look in the "Annimated Slide Shows" section in the main menu.

You can construct your animation frames in Photoshop, utilizing Layers, then save those Layers in a .PSD or similar format. You then can use GIMP http://gimp.org to import your file and use its animated GIF features. Personally, I feel, if you’re interested in doing animations, then you should investigate what free 3D animation applications have to offer.

A very interesting site, I must say. Thanks for sharing it as well as the Image Ready tip.
