WTF’s "sephia"? Do you mean Sepia? Have you tried entering "photoshop, sepia" into Google? Well, seeing as you can’t even spell sepia I guess you haven’t. Go try it there’s only 408,000 hits….

There’s a difference between a typo and ignorance, typing the same word wrong, twice in the same message is not a case of missing a key and then not checking your spelling it’s ignorance OF the word itself.

Not true, there’s 23,000 other people who can’t spell sepia either and Google often offers correct or alternate spelling for words.

The funny part is that people complain that usenet is dying at the same time as acting like this. The problem isn’t the spelling. It’s the vitriolic, socially inept tosspots that wail on people for not knowing as much as they do (and that *includes* knowing that google has the answer more often than not).

The inevitable excuse is always that these people have to be put firmly in their place and made an an example of so that we don’t have to put up with this sort of thing any more. People have, however, been flaming newbies and their questions since time immemorial and there seems to have been no appreciable reduction in the volume of such questions. That makes people who act like this self-satisfied, maladaptive, belligerent wankers and nothing more.

Few enough people wander onto usenet as it is these days, and then half the time they get yelled at, decide it’s full of nasty geek ogres, and don’t come back. They are then promptly replaced by another wandering newbie who gets the same treatment. If people were a tad nicer, they would have probably stuck around and been nicely answering newbie questions themselves within a relatively short period of time. Then Mr. Grumpy-Pants wouldn’t have had to open his mouth and waste his breath!

Of the spelling, but not the color or the concept.

Many Photoshop people are not good spellers, or they would be English teachers. Another possibility is that sepia could be spelled differently in different languages.

More tolerance, folks.

Or would most of the inhabitants of usenet prefer to use it as a massive cultural retirement home? In that case, I guess I can see why newbies get driven off. There is something to be said for sealing yourself away and dying in peace.

Quit being such a pedantic wonk.

The word for sepia in Hungarian is "tintahal"
and "nyers Photoshop sznob" is a person
of few manners and much arrogance about
a very narrow field of expertise.

Tomislav: there are several ways to create sepia in Photoshop. The easiest is probably to colorize the image (via the Hue/Saturation adjustment)
and one of the nicest is to use a Gradient Map adjustment layer. http://www.daleglaser.com/art/PhotoShopTips/PSTipsDaleSum06C .html

Poor guy, all these words and no one typed the few he needs to make a sepia tone in PS

make and adjustment layer by clicking the half moon, choose Hue/Saturation, choose colorize box by checking it,
move center slider to the left, move top slider to control the Hue.

there are other methods but this is a simple way

Another way is, on the menu bar- window/actions, and slide down to sepia toning.

Lol, whoops. I was having too much fun arguing. Well called! 🙂

You could also go to Image->Adjustments->Desaturate, then Image->Adjustments->Color Balance and play around with the sliders until you have the colour you want (you should do this with adjustment layers, really, but no big deal).

Lol, whoops. I was having too much fun arguing. Well called! 🙂
You could also go to Image->Adjustments->Desaturate, then Image->Adjustments->Color Balance and play around with the sliders until you
have the colour you want (you should do this with adjustment layers, really,
but no big deal).
Or, he could just open Actions and click the Sepia Toning action that comes pre-loaded with Photoshop. Is that too simple?

I wasn’t sure if that was default or I downloaded it or what versions had it, I did think of that too.
I know it’s pre-loaded in Photoshop 7, but I don’t know if it’s pre-loaded in other versions of Adobe’s products.

It is a simple process, but you have to get the color image adjusted before you apply it. You may want to, for example, brighten up the image first and then use the Sepia action. You may want to play around with contrast before you apply it.
