Since I upgraded to windows XP I’m unable to use the Brightness/Contrast adjustment. I get an eyedropper and the screen freezes to the point I have to reboot. How do I correct

Sounds like you need an update to your video drivers. Go to the manufacture’s site and see what they have. The generic ones with XP are often "suboptimal".

nope it sounds like the brightness contrast dialog is off screen. here’s how to fix it.:

if that fails (ie you just switched from dual to single monitors) reset the prefs:
