HI Group,
I have question about the jpeg options dialogue box that appears when I save an image. The "image options" quality number seems to vary among different images. Something about the characteristics of the image maybe. I’m wondering if there is a way that I can set a default number that will be the same every time. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Exactly. Busy images make for a big JPEG file, large areas with little variation lead to a small file.

Photoshop somehow learns what level you used for the last few files and uses it. So if you save with level 9, (for example), several times, it will be set for level 9.

If you "Save for Web" you can set a maximum size in KB.

If the JPEG was created in Photoshop, then Photoshop defaults to the JPEG quality setting used when that file was last saved.

If the JPEG was not created in Photoshop, then Photoshop defaults to the last quality setting oyu used the last time you used the Save As command.

Remember, though, that JPEG degrades the quality of your image. You should never use JPEG unless you have a clear, specific, and good reason why it has to be JPEG and no other file format will work.

Thanks for your replies. I found that before I edit a bunch of photos, if I create a new document and "save as" and enter the number I want, then all the photos I edit after that will come up with the same number. Nice to see there are still some good, helpful Photoshop people here in spite of all the scum that also exists here
