In a previous thread we have concluded that a French guest I had at home (while I was on vacation) COULD have installed his French PS CS on my English one since coming back (he is now in Angola for one year and unreachable) I found all menus in French.

I uninstalled the program with the "clean up everything" option and reinstalled my English version from CD … the menus KEEP on being French !!!

Could there be some preference file or registry entry which is NOT uninstalled that I could look for ???

Thank you … errr … Merci Bien.

uninstall again. delete the program files\adobe folder

then delete

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0

then clean up the registry of all adobe and photoshop refrences.

Thank you for the help.

Unfortunately the bloody progiie still insists on being French !

I do know French very well but believe me, a French GUI is something only the bravest will use 😎

Any other hope ??

FWIW I browsed the .cab files on the CD with an Hexadecimal viewer and could not find anything in French !

Sooooooo, Marco…

Have you now decided that it might be a good idea to password-protect your hard drive?

I am the ONLY person who can install software onto my system, and that’s just the way I like it.

And another thing, Marco….

If you’re just stringing us along, and you reveal that you just "invented" from your imagination this "friend" who is now in "Angola" as a fabrication to hide the fact that you are just trying to illegally use some software, and so we might take pity on your situation, you’ll find the members of this helpful forum turn VERY hostile, VERY quickly. Imagine a house built of ice shards crashing down around your ears…

I’m not accusing you of anything, I’m just giving you fair warning…

He’s got it installed in 2 places (or more).

A fresh install would replace all the localized bits.

Thank you to everyone (minus one) helping in this and previous related thread.

After going through the uninstall thrice I finally made it.

The only difference I can tell from the previous attempts is a more exhaustive manual cleaning of the registry.

For the "only to be able to install" consideration. True. Very true. BUT I have run in so many troubles in the past with the non administrator users on my XP system that I had to practice the bad habit …

Dave you are correct about the three minutes. My reply was to the previous append and only after I had read yours 8->

Again thank you for helping.

PS

Phosphor, it might be a language barrier misunderstanding (I am Italian) but your tone sounds very irritating. Seeing pirates everywhere ? Your conscience clean ? (not accusing of anything just giving you a fair warning). Adobe has my registrations for many many of it’s products and regularly floods my (real) mailbox with offers 8-> Anyway won’t lose more time with you.

Marco, there has been lately a flood of questions about people having "accidentally" installed a patch that converted their photoshop to Italian (or whathever language). The locals out there don’t like piracy at all, and your sad adventure maybe sounded too much like "my dog ate my homework" for some… We’ve heard all kind of stories, and note that Phoz didn’t say that it was the case for you…

So that’s another story about the delicacy and proper maneers of French citizens that customize programs on a machine that is not theirs… or are not able to accept that French is not the international language anymore, so they refuse to use an english version of Photoshop… (excuse me, I’m Belgian, and it is an tradition between French and Belgians to have fun of each other)

Pierre,
merci bien.

Sorry for not being aware that my story smelled sulfur (Phosphorus, did you like the chemical pun ? 8->).

I do not like to be attacked without notice.

If that was not the case, as it seems, much better for everyone. We have already too much real wars out there 8-<

OT: I am a Karate athlete and studying to become a referee. I have had to learn some Japanese for this since it still is the official language for many martial arts. But still I hate French in Information Technology as much as I love it for literature and songs.

Night.

Have a peaceful night!
(and you should have stated before that you are a Karateka, Phoz would have used way more caution in his wordings ;~) )

Not likely, Pierre.

🙂

And you’ve known me long enough to know that my cautionary admonishment was quite reserved, compared to what it might have been if I was confronting an self-admitted cracker.

<OT>

In martial arts Tatami is not only the name of a more or less thick/soft mattress used in training (quite softer for Judo).

In Karate it is also the generic name of the 8×8 meter area on which competitions are held and it’s surface is often quite hard since a soft surface will cause a "lock" of the foot on the ground facilitating distortions of the ankle and/or knee when performing most kicks.

You usually DO NOT sleep on this type of tatamis 8->

not unless your opponent is REALLY good! 🙂

Timothy,

Tatami are sleeping mats that are rolled up during the day.

I think you’re confusing tatami with futon. Tatami are semi-permanently installed mats in traditional Japanese homes, and, yes, room size is often expressed in tatami units.

Futon are rolled out on top of tatami floors for bedding.
