Dear all:

I am trying to use Photoshop to create a special effect for a presentation.

The effect I am trying to duplicate is the one created one a selection window is drawn across the desktop on the Mac’s OS X. When the cursor is placed at a point of the screen, the mouse button is kept pressed and then the cursor is dragged across in a diagonal motion, a whitish-translucent window is created covering the objects within this window.

My need is to create this effect to mask items o a slide during a presentation only leaving the items that I wish to focus on while all the others appear translucent or masked.

How can such an effect be created over an image in Photoshop ?

After the image is transformed with this effect I will then transfer it to Apple’s Keynote for my presentation. In case the information helps, I wish to have this mask used as a transition from one slide displaying all items to the next where most items will be masked and only the one in evidence will be fully clear and visible.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Joseph Chamberlain

Hi Joseph – I see you’re getting around the newsgroups a bit today!

I’m not a Mac man – but I think I know what you mean. By co-incidence, if you have a read of the "Transparent Layer Question" above your post, then read ‘tacit’s reply, I think this might be what you’re after (varying the opacity being the key). You’d have to adjust it for each image though.

Cheers,

CC

Hello, CC (or is it Colin?):

Thank you again for your feedback and help which I really appreciate.

Yes, its true. I’ve to the newsgroups more often than average these past few days. I happen to be working on some projects and had questions about some issues. I thought I could find some help from others who may have experienced these problems or issues before.

I will read Tacit’s reply and try to apply it to my project.

Thanks again for the help.

Best regards,

Joseph

CC – Cockpit – Colin – Hey you – I answer to all 🙂

Let me know how you got on.

If I interpret what you’re trying to do correctly, then I think all you need to be doing is creating a sold colour behind what you’re trying to hide, then vary the opacity to get the effect you’re after.

Cheers,

CC

on adobe exchange under styles download all the Mac styles palette and the Laurie’s glass
create a layer of solid color for the windowed area & apply a glass style to it or make your own
If you like the look of the Mac interface for design pages these come in very handy, they have all the gel styles for the buttons etc

Thank you Colin and Katwoman for the feedback. I am going to download the info you suggest from Adobe Exchange and give it try. It sounds just like what I am looking for.
