Dear Froum Experts:

I have some questions:

After I have downloaded the pictures from Olympus digital camera (C5050) to PC, I reviewed the EXIF through File Info and File Browser.
Shutter speed under File Info and File Browser is blank. However, exposure time is shown under File Browser.
Are the shutter speed and exposure time considered to be the same?

Is the category (such as shutter speed, ISO and etc.) of the EXIF different from manufacturer to manufacturer?

I hope someone can help me on this.

Hiro

Hiro,

I too have an Olympus camera (C8080) and when I take pictures in the RAW format (*.ORF) the EXIF data shows both Shutter Speed and Exposure Time and both have the same value so I suppose they are the same (if not technically at least practically)

Hello, Ronald:

Thank you for looking at this post. I was able to speak with the technical department from Olympus. He looked up the specification data and told me that the camera (C5050) is showing the word "shutter speed" on the LCD, however, when the picture is downloaded onto the Olympus software (Camedia), in which the "shutter speed" information is displayed under the word "exposure time", and Camedia software is not using the word "shutter speed".
Therefore, while the EXIF information is converted into the metadata of the software (either Camedia or PhotoShop), software places the "shutter speed" information under "exposure time".

When I download the pictures to PhotoShop, the "shutter speed" information is displayed as "exposure time".

So, I think each camera model (your C8080) may have its different EXIF writing algorithm, and as a result, it may be shown as "shutter speed" or "exposure time".
