When I attempt to import an image from my scanner, I get an error message reading "Could not initialize TWAIN. Make sure Twain_32. DLL is installed in the windows directory." I did a search and found that these files are installed in my directory. I then uninstalled/ re- installed my photoshop, and my scanner, and I still have the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

James,

That’s a problem that SHOULD be solved by re-installing the scanner software, but it would be helpful if you gave details about the version of Photoshop, the O/S version and the make/model of scanner

Thanks for the help Len. I am working with photoshop CS (8.0), on a Windows XP OS, with a Canon Canoscan LiDE scanner.

Let’s hope someone with that scanner sees the post and responds to you, James.

sorry, it means that when len answered via newsreader, the thread was pushed down to the bottom of page 2 of the forum. it’s a forum quirck. my "newsreader bump" was meant to push your post back to the top of the forum list (or "bump" it up) so that more people can see it and maybe help you out.

the thread was pushed down to the bottom of page 2 <<

Actually Dave, it would be more accurate to say it ‘sank’ to the bottom of Page2 just as it would have done if no-one had responded. NR replies don’t ‘push’ messages down, they just don’t elevate them to the top of the pile.

James,
Have you tried scanning with another application, like IrfanView, for example ? Might isolate the issue as being strictly Photoshop related, or not.

🙂

It is definitely an isolated Photoshop CS issue. I can scan with every other application (including Photoshop 5.0). And up until 2 weeks ago, I could scan with Photoshop CS, but out of nowhere all I get is this TWAIN message. Does anyone know what TWAIN is?

TWAIN is the scanner driver interface – it gets installed by the scanner software, and is used by applications to access the scanner.

It sounds like you are missing some files, or have corrupt files. You need to check for viruses and disk damage, and see if you installed or removed something about the time it stopped working.
