What is the difference between sharp, smooth etc in fonts?

And which is better for printing in brochures and magazines. At times when I type directly into PS it looks a bit fuzzy round the edge. How would I insert text into PS, just use copy paste? then adjust text font?

If you’re printing to postscript, it doesn’t matter. If not, WYSIWYG.

it is called anti-aliasing. and it is the way photoshop smooths the curves of text (because they use paths, and photoshop uses pixels)
you should be fine as long as you do not use "none". also, the higher your image resolution, the less "fuzzy" your text will be.
